Horses are friends forever

New studies in France show that horses can remember positive human interactions even after they’ve been apart for up to 8 months! This is so cool! The article from Discovery News goes on to say that horses respond to more verbal commands than we once thought. I guess if horses never forget then we ought to make sure we are pretty nice so they remember us fondly!

Harley’s progress

As some of you may know, Harley had a small procedure done recently. It was a routine procedure and he is doing just fine. He is back in his paddock with Tinkerbell and the ponies. He will have a follow-up in a few weeks when he will have to go back to Athens. Harley thanks everyone for their support and well wishes!

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade was so much fun this year. Thank you to everyone who helped out and made it such a big success. The Saddle Club cheered from the hay ride while the Low Country Equestrian Middle School Team  rode in the carriage with Harley. The middle school team will compete at Zones this weekend and if they qualify there, they will move on to Regionals.

If anyone has any more pictures of the festival, send them our way to lawtonstables@gmail.com

Saddle Club Update!

Saddle Club was so much fun yesterday and we snapped a few pictures so we could share them with everyone!

Charlie is such a good pony.

Our lovely Saddle club helpers. Good work, guys!

Whinnie and Miraculous are all lined up for some synchronized riding.

Meanwhile, in the big ring, we held a “horseless horse show.”

This is how we learn horse show etiquette (saluting, cantering on the correct lead, etc) and also how if feels to be a horse.

Some of the jumps were  a little more difficult to get over.

The jumps that look like a giant “X” are called “cross rails,” while jumps like this one are called “verticals.”

Here one Clubber learns how to measure her stirrups using the length of her arm.

We also learned how to successfully lead our horses into and out of their stalls.

Tres was making faces at people all day.

More synchronized riding.

Posing!

Group Shot

We also cleaned tack.

We hope to see everyone next week when we will be decorating the carriage and the hay ride for the Parade!

THE NEW BOARDING BARN TO OPEN IN 1 MONTH!

On March 29th we will be opening the doors our new Boarding Barn! You and your family are welcome to come from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for food and celebrations. It feels like just yesterday we were breaking ground on the new barn and now the big day is only a month away! We couldn’t be more excited for the big grand opening and we want to give everyone a tour of all the tack rooms, saddle club lounge, the stalls (with webcams), the new offices and just about everything else! Bring your whole family and your neighbors — we can’t wait to show our new barn off to everyone.  See you there!
